In this episode Elspeth, your host will be joined by Jackie. We know Jackie, as she has been coached by GGSC Coach Rachel for the past 2 and a half years. In that time Jackie has learned a lot about herself and how to train and fuel properly, whilst performing better in the events she enters. Jackie is approaching 60 year old next year and has remarkable strength on the bike. She attended a GGSC advanced Level camp this year and was one of the strongest women in the group. She is a great example to help inspire us that we can be strong women cyclists at any age.Â
Jackie talks about how she got into cycling. She was previously a runner, but had to give it up through injuries. She started out by training for a cycling event that was local to her, it was something she wanted to do as she approached 50. After some time cycling Jackie started coaching with GGSC. Jackie loved the structure, having goals and through the process learned a lot about herself. Like many cyclists, she under fuelled herself on long rides and learned she could feel good at the end without getting home unable to function for the rest of the day.
Earlier this year Jackie attended a GGSC cycling camp at advanced level. It was amazing to see Jackie's power and motivation up the climbs. She was one of the strongest members of the group and not far behind girls in their 20's and 30's up the hills. Group riding and descending was something that Jackie was nervous about, but during the camp it was great to see her confidence grow.
Jackie talks a little about what she wants to achieve as she turns 60. But I'm sure it will include enjoying time with her friends on the bike.
