Living in Cycling Paradise

It's this time of year that thousands of cyclist descend to Mallorca for a fantastic cycling holiday. It does force me to reflect on what's it's like to live in a cycling holiday destination.

I moved to Mallorca nearly 8 years ago now. Things have changed a lot on terms of the amount of cyclists visiting the island and of course there was covid within the time. I think that cyclo-tourism has grown generally I know people are not just visiting Mallorca and other Spanish destinations are also growing in popularity. It's great to see more women cycling, however it is still clear that cycling is still male dominated with a lot of testosterone driven cyclists out there.

I train in Mallorca all year road, it's not my profession, I don't get paid for it, but i do complete in a team. I would say it is a serious hobby and I race all over Spain. What I love about competing is the motivation to get stronger and the community of being in a female environment as we just compete with women. However, my main focus is GGSC.

The winter months are great in Mallorca as it's quiet, yet there is a strong community of cyclists and always someone to ride with. Some days it's necessary to wrap up, but the climate is good for cycling. The spring and autumn months are most popular for cyclists visiting Mallorca and it's also when we have our cycling camps. Generally the weather is perfect. There's always a great sense of camaraderie during these time and you will always get a chapeau as you reach the top of the popular climbs.

Summer is very hot which can bring it's challenges. So getting out early or waiting until the evening is a must to enjoy the heat. But at least there is some certainty of the climate... it's going to be hot!

Mallorca is a great place to live and enjoy for your holidays as a cyclist!
