The Power of Routine!

Routine, some of us love it, some of us challenge it, but we all want to get where we want to be quicker.

We all know it's easy to get out on your bike before work once, to eat well for a week, to get up early for a few days, but rewards come when we get into a routine and we start owning it!

Here are 2 valid reasons why routine wins over winging it!

You know what to expect

You know if it's going to be tough and you know you can get through it as you have done it before. You know what to do if you keep repeating the same patterns you will get better at them and have more free time and feel more relaxed. You know what to expect of yourself, people know what they can expect of you and you can grow relationships through it.

Personally I like routine as it provides a nice community. I often cycle the same routes each week. By going the same time each week, I will often see the same faces and we start to acknowledge each other through our shared routine and interests.

You body responds will to routine and you can make progress

You can use this example of working out to so many other parts to your life too. In order to adapt to the strain and become a stronger cyclist, you need to repeat the same training over and over again to progress. The same can be said for many things like learning a new language, public speaking or cooking a recipe. It then becomes a healthy habit.

Some helpful tips on some useful routines for your fitness and day to day life.

  • Get up and go to bed at similar times. To help ensure you are getting adequate sleep and you can get in the habit of rising early.

  • Plan your rides ahead for the week and put them in a schedule around your other commitments.

  • Prepare you food in advance, batch cook the same time each week, so you have food for the week.

  • If you want to learn a new skill, do most sport, read more etc, set the time in your diary each week, until you don't even have to think about it and it would become strange if it did not happen.

At Girls Get Strong Cycling we encourage you to train regularly and set a routine to fit your training in
