If you had the opppertunity to watch the Tour de Frances Femmes this year you would have witnessed, determination, perseverance, grit, but also camaraderie, empathy and compassion between women. Plus of course a huge amount of women cycling with amazing skills on the bike and sharing the journey along the way.
You don't have to take part in the Tour de France Femmes to experience this. Within women's cycling these emotions are evident within so many groups at all levels.
The Stereotypes
We can often stereotype women's cycling or women's groups in general as bitchy, negatively competitive, hostile or for women that don't want to challenge themselves.
What's great about a women's cycling holiday
On our cycling camps women come from all over the world, this creates am amazing group of interesting women. This might be a problem, but when we all have a shared passion for cycling, we are never stuck for conversation, but all too interested in know what cycling is like all over the world.
We can help inspire each other, we can be competitive but in a positive way. We can experience how the strength of others can help lift us and not bring us down with resentment. We love to cycle with others of similar ability and see the confidence and strength of others grow as we reach the tops of mountains together. All at different speeds but all knowing the struggle to get there and happy for everyone to make it to the top.
We don't need to feel embarrassed if we need to develop our skills, but look onto others for support and guidance and in turn we love to support others in their understanding, because we know what it was like to learn.
Of course visiting new places is exciting and doing it with a group of women that share your passion not only helps us learn from others, but learn about ourselves.
