What to do on an Indoor Trainer

An indoor trainer is a great way to ensure that you get your winter riding in, you don't have to worry about the weather and you don't have to worry about it getting dark. Read my previous post on the pros and cons of training indoors for more insight!

Different to riding outdoors you can't or don't have a set route to complete. So, what do you do whilst you are riding indoors and how do you motivate yourself?

Follow an App

You can join an app such as zwift, trainerroad, sufferfest. You will pay a monthly subscription and can follow a training plan, or be part of the interactive platforms where you can ride certain routes and enter races. I would recommend Trainerroad if you want a plan to follow or Zwift for an interactive experience. You can even combine both apps if you have the budget.

Zone out, pedal, set a clock, listen to a podcast or watch netflix

Use the time to catch up on a podcast and relax for an hour. Even by doing this regularly you will see the benefits come spring.

Create your own workouts or have a coach plan them for you

Training indoors does has its benefits in that you can focus on intervals that are going to make you faster. Look out for future posts where I will share some workouts that you can do to help you get faster for spring.

I would recommend getting in at least 2 indoor workouts during the week of 1 hour to 1 hour 30mins. Then an outdoor ride over the weekend.
