Why am I Training Hard, but not Getting Faster?

There are many reasons why women come to us for coaching, but one this that is quite consistent is that they want to get faster and they want some structure provided to their training.

How Women Often Train without Coaching

There are often 2 scenarios.

  1. You train as much as possible and all the time as hard as you can

You try and fit in as much training as you feel you can into your schedule. None of it is particularly planned, you just get out when you have a window, or you have something planned with friends. You continually feel guilty that you do not get out on your bike enough so you always push as hard as you can.

The problem with this is that you are always just training in zones 2 and 3. You need to add some recovery rides, short rides that feel easy, and also on some rides working harder for shorter intervals, 5 - 10mins at zone 4 and 1 - 3 mins at zone 5. This will not only make you feel more recovered, but will allow you to get stronger with adequate rest and by pushing the power for short periods of time.

  1. You struggle to find the motivation to go out on your bike and tend to always ride your comfort zone

Perhaps you lack the confidence to understand what you are capable of on the bike. But having a consistent and regular routine that you are going to stick to is going to build up your fitness and your confidence. You will start to understand your potential and how your body reacts to the training and what you do is making your stronger.

We know everyone is different and there are many reasons you could are not getting stronger, but at GGSC we are really interested in knowing the barriers you have to getting stronger on the bike and finding the remedy.
