Gear Up For Winter Cycling

In case you have not noticed we are keen to help women cycle all year round. We know for some parts of the world it is just not possible to get outdoors due to weather restrictions. but for some of us it is, but we just need to be prepared.

There can be a great sense of camaraderie as the brave souls venture out on their bikes over the winter. Many cyclist say they love the connection with nature it brings them. So when possible it maybe cold, but you will feel great for it.

It's not going to happen if you are not prepared, so here is a list of essentials. Having the right kit is really going to make a difference.

  • Winter tights - long cycling tights are great and often with warmer fabrics so much more cosy than a pair of leg warmers.

  • Base layers - layer up. Fabrics like marino are great to keep you dry from sweat and warm.

  • Gloves - A good pair of winter gloves are a must to keep your extremities warm.

  • Overshoes - These go over your cycling shoes to keep your other extremities warm.

  • winter jacket - A good cycling winter jacket is great for pockets and will help provide movement.

If possible you make need to be more flexible to pick the best days to get out. If there is risk of ice, stay indoors as it can be dangerous.

Winter cycling gear may make you feel a little more restricted in movement than your summer kit, so maybe you are not going to be chasing an PB's in it. But it will help your create some winter cycling memories and help give you maintain that base fitness to chase those PB's come some summer.
